Message from Principal Christina Mahone
On behalf of the Frontier High School faculty and staff, I am happy to welcome all of you to the 2018-2019 school year!
We are very excited about the accomplishments of this past school year, 141 graduates, 128 of our 12th grade students applied to college and more students than ever completed a career technical program at VCOE’s Career Education Center. These accomplishments are important to our community when we consider that these students were once at risk of not finishing high school. We are proud that Frontier HS can provide a setting for students who need a second chance, a program that helps students recover credits and a place where students can realize their unlimited potential.
FHS continues to grow in order to meet the needs of the students we serve. During the 2018-19 school year we will introduce a new program at FHS called Week of Welcome (WOW) which will be 3 days filled with activities aimed at building school culture and positive relationships as well as connecting students to our school’s policies and programs. The daily schedule for these 3 days, August 29th-31st, will be 8:35-11:30am. Another new program we will be implementing is the Transition Program. This program will provide targeted support to our students enrolling with us during the trimester. We are very excited to be adding a new position to the FHS team, Student Intervention Specialist. This person will focus on providing intervention and prevention with a focus on student’s mental health and academic needs. We will continue our partnership with the Career Education Center (CEC) which allows for career technical courses to be offered both during the school day and after school at the CEC located across the street from FHS.
This school year we will continue with the Trimester calendar that provides students with the opportunity to earn 82.5 credits each year within their regular schedule. This year the daily breakfast and lunch program will be offered free to all students. The FHS Parent Program will continue offering monthly workshops on topics generated by parent/guardian need. Other opportunities for family involvement, such as the School Site Council (SSC) and the English Language Advisory Council (ELAC) are also available. For more information on all parent/guardian opportunities please contact the FHS Parent Facilitator, Maria Toledo, at 389.4369.
The dedicated and caring faculty/staff of Frontier HS is eager to continue their work preparing all students for powerful futures. Our mission is to provide a positive, alternative educational environment designed to foster a sense of community, personal responsibility and academic success in ALL our students.
Finally, I would like to emphasize the importance of the partnership with our student’s families. We must work as a team to ensure your student’s success. All faculty and staff can be reached by email or by calling the main office at 389.6450. Faculty and staff email addresses can be found on our school website: www.frontierhigh.us .
As principal of Frontier HS, I am honored to serve our students and families. I am excited for what this new school year has to offer and look forward to seeing all of you at Back to School night on, October 11, 2018.
