YC&C hosts Mental Wellness Fair
On Wednesday FHS had its first Mental Wellness Fair. After seeing the school survey responses showing that over 80% of our students listed stress and anxiety as their major issues, the Youth Culture & Climate class decided to organize an informational fair. The event provided a number of ways to deal with stress, as well as a number of organizations that could help if things felt overwhelming. We were lucky enough to involve BRITE, Interface, VC Behavioral Health, Comfort Dogs and Art Therapy in the lunchtime presentations. Students were given a “passport” to take through the circuit, which earned them a stress ball and entry into a raffle. Special thanks to the Youth Culture & Climate class who spent hours organizing, publicizing and working at our first fair! Well done!
FHS Geo Bowl Team on a history exploration
The Frontier Geography Bowl Team had a great time exploring history and colleges in Santa Barbara. We were able to visit a few historical spots downtown, as well as the Santa Barbara Mission. We then explored Santa Barbara Community College, walked around the sprawling campus right off of the beach, and had some lunch in a campus cafeteria while mixing with college students. After SBCC we had the opportunity to take a guided tour of the UCSB campus. We were able to walk around the large campus and ask questions of our tour guide, who was a senior at the university. It was a great day to explore some history, geography, and higher education in Santa Barbara, and it was capped off with some great pizza at Woodstocks, a famous college pizza spot!
